Mission Opportunities
A life-changing experience - a mission trip in 2008! Mission teams will construct churches, help run medical clinics, provide outreach and leadership training, assist with African AIDS/HIV women’s conference, lead vacation Bible camps and rebuild homes affected by Hurricane Katrina. Teams will go to Honduras, Africa, Ukraine, New Mexico and Bay St Louis. There is a mission opportunity for anyone ages 8 to 80+. Learn more at www.cor.org/beyondkansascity.
Small groups are invited to compete in collecting for the Souper Bowl Food Drive. The winning group will have brunch with Pastor Adam before working together to deliver some of the food to an urban ministry or food pantry. Learn about this event and volunteer opportunities at www.cor.org/foodbank.
Free on Monday afternoons? Join the team that sorts and distributes collected items every other Monday at 1 pm at the Resurrection West Office. Email rstrump@att.net for more information.
Our collection ministry accepts cell phones, gently used clothing, shoes, and household items both on Sundays at Prairie Trail and at during the week at the Rez West office. Please consider bringing items as a way to minister to others in need. Items are carefully sorted and distributed throughout the metro area to agencies and churches that are in need of particular items. Your donations go the location that can best use a particular item—from blankets to business suits!
Resolve to be involved! Pastor Adam has challenged each of us to serve others in the community all year long. Make a New Year’s resolution to find out how you can serve in Kansas City or around the world. You may transform your life as well as the lives of others! Consider one of these opportunities:
Work with an adult on budgeting skills * Lead activities for an urban teen ministry * Join an international mission team* Make sack lunches * Sort collected items * Teach Alpha classes at a prison * Befriend a foster child or foster family * Go on a domestic mission trip * Tutor children * Worship with a patient in an AIDS facility * Prepare and serve meals * Refurbish an apartment for a previously homeless family.
Mission Ministry Steering Team Forming. Interested in Missions leadership? Do you have some ideas for particular service opportunities in our community? As we look to expand our Mission Ministries at Resurrection West, we are forming a group to give leadership to the ministry. Please contact Molly if this sounds like something God might be leading you to do.
The Resurrection Auction and Golf Classic, a church-wide event, is scheduled for May 2008. This is our church’s largest fundraiser, which benefits our Mission Ministries. With these funds, we have built churches and medical clinics overseas, as well as benefited Habitat for Humanity and food pantries in Kansas City. We are now forming the leadership team to begin work in January on this important event. Please contact Kent Baker at 913-488-7007 or kent_baker@ml.com to get involved.
Bread Ministry. Bread Ministry volunteers pick up leftover bread from Panera Bread locations, repackage it, and redistribute it within the community. We have an immediate need to fill the Wednesday night pickup. This is a once-a-week commitment of about an hour in the evening to bag the bread and another hour the next day to deliver to the location. We can also pair up people to serve twice a month.
Workplace Food Drive It’s not too late to sign up to host a food drive at your workplace! You and your coworkers can help “Kick Hunger in KC” by participating in this food drive. Contact Marc Paulson at mpaulson@scoular.com or 913-696-9273.
Tutors and mentors are needed at urban ministries after school and Saturdays. Work one on one with students or in small groups on reading and/or math. Contact Linda.Hill@cor.org or 913-544-0218 to learn how you can help raise test scores and student self-confidence.
If you would like more information on how you can become involved in Mission Ministries, please contact Molly.Simpson@cor.org or 913-538-7800.
